Ok, I may be from southern Indiana, but I don't really say, "Howdie!" Welcome to my first post. I wasn't sure how to start this blog. I mean, do you jump right in or do you introduce yourself? I decided to do the latter. Here goes.... Hi, I'm Erika. I grew up in a small, rural community in southern Indiana. I was a 10-year member of 4-H and I was even the county fair queen. However, I would not necessarily classify myself as a country girl. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the country and country music is one of my favorite genres, but I don't really like dirt under my nails or sweating in the awful humidity during an Indiana summer. I guess I would call myself "classy country" or "farm glam." What is classy country you ask? It looks something like me gardening while wearing work gloves in my Hunter boots. Or maybe I'm cooking with our fresh garden vegetables while drinking a glass of moscato and listening to Frank Sinatra and Etta James. It could be me having a nice evening with friends while watching the deer in the fields off of our back deck. I don't think you have to chew tobacco and wrestle pigs (however, I have done both) to be country. There is room for some refinement too.
On my About page I mentioned that I married my high school sweetheart and we have two children. In order to maintain some of their privacy I will just refer to my husband as "husband," my daughter as "L," and my son as "J." L is the oldest and is just as strong-willed and independent as her momma. It is a little too soon to tell what J's personality will be, but I'm sure hoping that he'll be a strong man of faith just like my grandpa, which is J's namesake.
So that's me.
On the blog, you can expect a lot of posts about me teaching L. I am a teacher after all. We recently started beekeeping. I'll keep you posted about that adventure! You can also expect a lot of recipes. I love to cook.
If you have any questions, just ask!
Y'all come back now ya hear!
(Sorry. I couldn't resist!)
How is the beekeeping coming along? I started two hives on April 28 and mine seem to be going pretty good. Only been stung 3 times. I hate wearing all that gear so it was my fault.
So far I have only been helping with the researching and flower planting. My husband has done all of the actual interaction with them, but he has almost always worn the full suit. I have been busy planting anemones and lavender as I’ve read that these are good flowers to have around the bees. I’m hoping to get more flowers planted for them soon. One of my next posts will be about setting up our hive. Thanks for stopping by the Hill!
Love this. Look forward to reading it!
What does a blog do?
It is a way for me to share recipes and experiences with my followers. Most of the ideas you find on Pinterest come from bloggers.
