Since the next few weeks are going to full of celebrating here and there, I thought I would give you my progress on my "turning 30 goals" a little early. I'm happy to report that putting the goals out there for you all to see and knowing that I have to do my check-in post has been giving me motivation to work on them. I've always been one that needed accountability.
Goal #1: Read More
Progress: I'm still reading Anything by Jennie Allen. This book is heavy y'all! It is actually painful to read, but in a good way. It is really making me reexamine my life and faith. It is also scaring the crap out of me. I promise to do a full review here when I'm finished. I've also been reading a little of the Heart magazine that launched this month. You need to get this magazine. Why leave Cosmos laying around for your little girl (or boy for that matter) to see when you can leave a magazine that is about real women and real life? Because both of these are at times, a little too intense for hours of reading, I've started reading Choosing the Simply Luxurious Life by Shannon Ables as well.
Goal #2: Continue Going to Yoga
Progress: I went to one class this month. My husband was on travel for two weeks so I missed those weeks, but I went back the first week I could. I really missed it! All classes are cancelled until the first of the year when we are supposed to be getting a new instructor. One of my classmates had been doing instructor training and is supposed to take over when class starts back up.
Goal #3: Lose the Baby Weight
Progress: I'm excited to report that I've lost between three and four pounds since my last update! I actually got to wear my favorite pre-baby J dress to Christmas service yesterday! It was a little tight, but it zipped and that's all that matters, right? Most mornings for the last few weeks I've started my day with a scoop of doTERRA TerraGreens mixed with water and then a kale or spinach and blueberry smoothie. The blueberries cover up any "green" flavor and the combination keep me full and have made me stop thinking about snacking most days. I've also been trying to only drink water during and after supper so I don't add any calories late at night.
Goal #4: Learn Italian
Progress: Last week I started up my Duolingo again. I've been trying to take 15-30 minutes a day to brush up on it. The last update I got said that I was 13% fluent in Italian. When I started last week I was only 9% fluent, so 4% in a week isn't too bad. If you're using Duolingo for Italian, leave your username in the comments and I can add you. Having a little competition could give us all a little motivation!
Goal #5: Take a Cooking Class
Progress: I've started looking at the cooking school schedule for the spring. I've found four classes that I would LOVE to take, but at $60 a pop, it may not be in the budget to take them all. There is a Wines for Romance course around Valentines' Day where wines are paired with different courses of a romantic dinner. Then there is a Red Wine Primer and a White Wine Primer that I would be interested in taking. I usually just drink what I know I'll like, but I really do want to become better at pairing wines and broaden my palate. And the last class I want to take is called April in Paris where the chef teaches you to create French dishes and pairs them with different French Wines. I really wish my friend Malia, who writes over at It's Not as Posh as It Sounds, was still living close by to take it with me. She went to Paris on her honeymoon!
Goal #6: Make Time for Play
Progress: We have had a few dance parties in the living room to Christmas music these last few weeks. L and I also have this game where I run around chasing her trying to get her. She thinks it is hilarious and so does J as we race by. It wears me out though...she's fast!
With my husband being on travel for two weeks there hasn't been a lot of time for us to do anything together just for fun and with the holidays these next two weeks I'm sure there won't be a lot of time then either, but a date night is being discussed. I hate leaving my kids around bedtime, so I usually don't want to go anywhere, but I think we have only been on two "dates" since L was born three years ago.....
Goal #7: Develop a Signature Style
Progress: I have been cleaning out my closet. I'm trying to get rid of anything I haven't worn in a while or don't love. Since I'm still not down to pre-baby weight whether it fits or not is not cause for something to be thrown out yet. Once I hit that mark, I'm going to try on every piece of clothing I own....If it fits (and I love it) it stays, if not it goes. I also backed Girl Set Free on Kickstarter and will receive a copy of Amy's "My Lean Closet" ebook. I'm really hoping this will aid me in the pursuit of a capsule wardrobe and my signature style.
Goal #8: Master the Top Knot
Progress: I don't know if it is the fact that I'm a perfectionist or what, but I can't get the hang of a messy top knot. Mine always seems to be too "polished". I just feel like people are looking at me funny when I have pieces out of place, but when I see it on other women, I love it so I'm still working on this one.
Goal #9: Continue Making our House Our Home
Progress: I bought a dresser from a yard sale site and made it our TV stand. I painted it green and used Martha Stewart's antique wax. I'm not usually one for color in my home anymore, so I was unsure if the piece would stay green, but I think it is growing on me...to the excitement of my friends. I plan on doing a living room transformation post after all of the holiday decor is put away with before and after shots of my pieces and the room.
Goal #10: Make Devotions & Bible Study Part of My Daily Life
Progress: I feel like a failure in this area. I've made some sort of progress in all of my other goals except for this one. I need to get up before the kids and have quiet time with the Lord, but I just can't seem to make my body do it. I don't stay up very late (10:30 is usually the latest), but I'm usually still wiped by the time J wakes up at 6:00. Waking up at 5:00am just seems like torture, but I'm either going to have to suck it up or figure out another time of day to be able to sit down and do this.
I will continue to work on these ten goals in the New Year, but I also have a few other things in mind to work on too. Make sure you come back next week where I will tell you my word for 2016 and how I'm going to put that into action!
